Save $400 for a Headphone Jack
This segment on SmartPhone Showdown pits Google's top of the line smartphone against Motorola. Google's Pixel 2 is truly an incredible phone and is a strong competitor to the best smartphones on the market, notably the iPhone X and the Samsung Note 8. However, as with all the top smartphones on the market that have been discussed, the price tags are simply outrageous. So how does the Motorola Moto G5S Plus stack up against the Pixel 2 keeping in mind that it only costs $280 compared to the Pixel 2 at $649.

Beginning with the Pixel 2, many are saying that the camera is one of the best, if not the best, camera ever on a smartphone. The interesting thing to note is that it has a single 12MP camera on the back compared to a dual 13MP camera on the Moto G5S Plus, however, the Pixel 2 is able to produce better pictures. Google has put impressive software into the Pixel 2 to get incredible results with only a single camera. However, the Moto G5S Plus camera will still look great and for someone not focused on photography, it is worth it to save nearly $400 (GSMArena).
Moving onto the display. The Google Pixel 2, as with the iPhone X and the Galaxy Note 8, has a OLED display. OLED stands for Organic LED. OLED may just seems like a fancier word and mean absolutely nothing to most people, just remember that an OLED screen is capable of displaying more colors. The contrast is much higher, meaning the blacks are much much, well, blacker. The Moto G5S Plus only has an LED display, but is at least average and gets the job done.
Comparing the battery life of these two phones is quite difficult. The Pixel 2 has a 2,700mAh battery compared to a 3,000mAh battery in the Moto G5S Plus (GSMArena). One may be quick to assume that the Moto G5S Plus has the longer battery life because it has a bigger battery, however, software does play a large rule in battery life. As a result, the battery life of the Pixel 2 is most likely longer than that of the Moto G5S Plus, however, the Moto G5S Plus should be able to last a whole day.
The last and probably the most important feature to discuss is the headphone jack. The Pixel 2 is yet another phone plagued with the missing headphone jack. Leading to buyers living the dongle life or having to dish out even more money to buy wireless options. But thankfully, there is a phone out there that still has one and yes it is the Moto G5S Plus. For $400 that you save you can have a headphone jack, if that isn't the best thing ever I simply don't know what is.
Especially funny is the fact that Google, in its advertisements for the original Pixel, made fun of the iPhone for its removal of the headphone jack. Now, only a few years later, it looks like they're jumping on the bandwagon too. I really don't understand why phones would not include the headphone jack, seeing as it's such a ubiquitous piece of hardware and its exclusion seems to be a negative for so many consumers.
