Cameras, Cameras, Cameras

Do you buy a laptop or a computer? There is yet another smartphone nearing the cost of a laptop. The    Huawei Mate 10 Pro's base price is priced $945 (android authority). Fortunately, there are cheaper smartphones out there. The Mi Mix 2 is priced at $552. Not as cheap as most would prefer, but definitely better than the phones from the well established companies. I will pick apart each phone and give advice on whether the steep price might be worth it.

From The Verge
First with the Mate 10 Pro. The screen quality is competitive, 2160x1080 OLED display. OLED allows for better contrast, so blacks will be blacker than what is possible with a LED display. This plays into the best part of the whole phone, the camera. This phone boasts dual 20 MegaPixel rear facing cameras. This the highest out of any smartphone currently on the market. Both the iPhone X and the Galaxy Note 8 have dual 12 MegaPixel rear cameras. This is a staggering difference! It is also able to shoot 4K video, which is a standard for high end smartphones at this point. Even the front  facing camera is impressive. It is an 8 MegaPixel camera, which still beats the iPhone X, which only is 7 MegaPixels. Now to the battery. The Mate 10 Pro has a 4,000 mAh battery, which will last a day and longer, which is definitely competitive.

The Mate 10 Pro does lack in some areas. It is plagued with the missing headphone jack. This does add to the already expensive device because you either have to buy dongles galore or buy wireless headphones. The dongle life is not only expensive, it's annoying.

From Hi Tech Wiki
Unfortunately the Mi Mix 2 is also plagued with the missing headphone jack. So, it has the same problems in this regard. The Mi Mix 2 does have bluetooth 5, however, which allows it to connect to two devices at the same time! Pretty cool, but still does not fix the issue.

The Mi Mix 2's display is has the same number of pixels as the Mate 10 Pro, but is LCD. It will still be very sharp and most people will not be able to tell the difference between LCD and OLED unless comparing them side to side. The camera is decent, but is only a single 12 MegaPixel rear facing camera. If you are buying a phone for the camera, then you probably want to consider a pricier phone. However, for regular camera users who generally only use the camera when Snapchatting, this camera will be great. The battery is also fairly good. 3,000 mAh should last the whole day, which of course is a goal.

I believe that most people should get the Mi Mix 2 over the Mate 10 Pro simply because of the price. The Mi Mix 2 is a competitive smartphone, just the same as the Mate 10 Pro, but cheaper and with a few drawbacks that most people wouldn't even notice. However, if you want an incredible camera, pick the Mate 10 Pro.
